Compact, accurate, rugged - I have used mine for 6 or 7 years in highway patrol work, mostly for measuring crash scenes. Thus it has operated in the hot and cold, wet and dry. It lives in the crowded trunk of my car year round. Performance has been flawless.I have checked it for accuracy against a tape measure and it is right on. The combination of small wheel and 3 section telescoping handle make it very compact. You could probably carry it in a briefcase.Mine has often been used under conditions of urgency, and as I said, poor weather. Typically, mine is used on road pavement, taking measurements of sometimes several hundred feet, and occasionally done while at a slow run. Performance has always met my expectations and the device remains essentially like new. May I also add that due to the conditions under which I ve used it, I have often treated it rather roughly . . . sometimes dropping it, or unscrewing/screwing the handle roughly (for the telescopic function). I have not succeeded in damaging it.Highly recommended. For general home use - should last a lifetime.
